After the extreme heat and stress the last UAAP Cheerdance Competition brought me, I will finally say something extremes about it.

School spirit was on rage before, during and especially after the competition. It was so much fun, I could not stop shouting 'til my nerves snap out of my head and neck.
"Ang daming obstacles!" I said to my friend, but it's all worth it because it's my last year in college and I could never be more proud of my school, so I swore to myself that I would die if I am not gonna be able to watch it.

Cheerdance is like a damn journey to hell, and the only way to heaven is to get sick on your butt waiting for the ticket seller to give you your damn ticket which says, "General Admission" or "Standing-room only". What the f*ck.

I wasn't able to get a ticket from the university because that'd mean I will line up at the gym at around 4 or 5 in the morning. That was Tuesday. So Wednesday, I went to Araneta instead to but, but men, when I came, the line was already up to the parking lot. But then, after 3 hours of standing and sitting in line, I got myself 2 General Admission tickets for 60php each. I was not happy. I wanted to sit and I wanted the show closer. So we decided to just go very early on Sunday, the day of the event, to stand in line and buy tickets again. More closer.

and then more hell...
I'll give you plenty of reasons how and why people lose their patience and 'morals' for the sake of school pride and spirit (and making money for OTHERS).

1. Long "isaw" lines

I am not new to very long lines and countless hours of waiting. When I entered the university, I always expect registration and transaction lines to be very long and I know there is no slight hope that it's going to get better in the next years. I went to Araneta on the day of the competition at 4AM, yes 4 freakin in the morning, and I was already maybe the 70th people in the line. When I got there, I was amazed that people actually spent the night there to get into the line first(s). It was unbelievable. Good thing I saw my friends from UST, whom I met the last time I lined up for the tickets. They accommodated me in the line that they stayed on since 6 in the evening the night before. We were able to buy tickets at 1pm. At that time, the line was already forming up til the next two blocks of the area. Damn.

2. Scalpers

Online or personal. Selling tickets almost up to 10x the price. I repeat 10x. I sold my tickets too, but I put it on bid for a starting price of 80php and posted it on the UAAP Cheerdance Facebook page. After 1 minute, someone told me that he'd buy it for 200 each! So, I said yes instantly. I was not guilty of scalping because they were the ones who offered the price. I bought each ticket for 60 pesos and sold them for 200 each. And then because we were so early on the line, I managed to buy another extra two tickets, so I sold them also. For a price of 200 per ticket each, I sold it for 400 each.

Too much? Wait til you hear this.
-one old guy told me offered general admission tickets for 700 each!!! what the fuck?
That's only 60 pesos!
-then another guy, 1000 for Patron (the closest to the area)
-transactions with the scalpers and the students in front of the police men! that's because they all gain from it

These people, I believe, are also insiders from Araneta, Ticketnet or whatever who hoard the ticket and sell them at a very high price. Most of the times, people, especially those who hate lining up and those who have money to waste, tolerate these people. They have no choice and they have the money.

3. Hoarding
When we were already inside, I noticed the groups of people coming together. I mean family groups, mom, dad, children who seem to be in their tweenies-not-so-college students, babies and yaya. I got really furious because I mean what the hell, they could not possibly got the tickets for themselves because that would require them to stand in line for 5 effin' hours or more and the ticket is 1-1 person only!
It's so unfair how other people had to stand, sit and sleep in line for almost 20 hours or more just to get a single ticket, and them? even the driver and the yaya managed to get one. They did not realize that the people who are really involved in the competition would actually kill or die for the tickets.

4. Bashers
It's always expected that you cheer with all your heart and passion for university but it does not mean that you have to bash other universities by making banners with comments that do not sound so friendly and damaging to the reputation of other schools. On the other hand, one of the competition's goals is to inculcate a sense of camaraderie not only within your school but also to foster harmonious relationships with other schools. It's just so disappointing to see comments like 'you-know-what-i mean'. Not only in Araneta but also in social networking pages etc.
Moreover, I don't understand why people get so affected with other people say. People have different opinions about the competition, don't vent your anger towards a person who is just expressing his or her own feelings like what all of us are doing.

(my) University of the Philippines got the champion title again after a year of defeat, Far-Eastern University got the second and the University of Santo Tomas got the third. The crowd was so awesome after the announcement of the third place, because everyone knows it was going to be a tough decision between UP and FEU. But then it was so overwhelming when UST and the whole coliseum cheered for UP as the champion. When the first place was announced, the crowd just got all crazy. I could not hear myself screaming because it was so so loud out there.

UAAP Cheerdance is not only a competition among schools but also a battle of morale and patience. It's not so bad after all, especially when you have made friends along the way. The long wait is over and the long lines was so worth it.
GO UPSTE!
